Presentation of the Policy Document and Public Discussion - "A Framework for the Agricultural Reform in Georgia"

On January 31, a presentation and public discussion were held for the policy document titled "A Framework for the Agricultural Reform in Georgia." The document prepared by the research institute Gnomon Wise, thoroughly examines the agricultural sector in Georgia, drawing comparisons with successful reforms implemented in other countries.

The analysis revealed a sluggish development rate in Georgia's agricultural sector since gaining independence. Given the current challenging situation, there is a pressing need for sectoral reforms. The proposed direction emphasizes reducing the agricultural sector's share in total employment to 4.5%, lowering its contribution to the gross domestic product to 1.4%, increasing the average farm size to 17.4 hectares, and minimizing budgetary support to 0.48% of the gross domestic product. The authors assert that these reforms will enhance economic efficiency.

The document dedicates significant attention to studying member states of the European Union, aligning with Georgia's landmark and broad political consensus for full-fledged integration.

Authors Zviad Khorguashvili and Egnate Shamugia presented the policy document during the event. The public discussion saw active participation from civil society, private sector representatives, and other stakeholders.
