Gnomon Wise and GEOpolitics at Rīga Conference 2025: Georgia’s Case in Focus

From 9 to 11 October 2025, the largest annual security and foreign policy forum in the Nordic and Baltic region - Rīga Conference 2025 - took place at the University of Latvia's House of Science.
The forum brought together some of the most influential decision-makers and experts in transatlantic security and European foreign policy, including Matthew J. Whitaker, U.S. Permanent Representative to NATO; Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament; Admiral Rob Bauer, former Chair of NATO's Military Committee; Margus Tsahkna, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia; and Andrius Kubilius, European Commissioner for Defence and Space, among many others.
This year, Gnomon Wise and its analytical journal GEOpolitics maintained an active presence throughout the conference. On 10 October, a special side event focused on Georgia's case, where Thornike Gordadze, Senior Research Fellow at Gnomon Wise and contributor to GEOpolitics, together with Shota Gvineria, also a contributor to GEOpolitics, explored practical strategies for sustaining civil resistance under growing authoritarian pressure and discussed the critical role Western partners must play in countering hybrid threats facing Georgia.
Throughout the three-day forum, participants and guests had the opportunity to discover the latest issues of GEOpolitics and engage directly with its team. The conference — which brought together over 130 speakers from 51 countries, attracted 62,889 online viewers, and reached a global audience of 3.3 million - highlighted Georgia's challenges and perspectives within the broader transatlantic security agenda.
